6 days agoI was going to say there’s no rules against saying “Elon Musk should be killed” here on Lemmy, but then I saw we’re on Lemmy.world, and I think they’re trying to be the new Reddit.
(For any mods, this is not a call for violence, simply stating a thing that isn’t allowed. Please read it again if you think I made a call to violence.)
I liked it a long time ago, but last time I watched it I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much. The eugenics annoys me far more than it used to, and most of the humor is just crass and doesn’t have a meaning. They aren’t using it to say anything larger.
Meanwhile the themes of the movie are anti-capitalist (sort of, without the philosophy of considering why it causes issues) and anti-populist. It has something to say, but I feel like they’re far too careful to say it. Its got a veil of critique, but without wanting to make too many waves, because it’s still a big budget capitalist movie at the end of the day.
I feel like it makes a lot of people feel smug and turns them into reactionary anti-establishment conspiracy theorists, because it only says “this is bad and stupid” but doesn’t give you anywhere to go with that.
