Interesting idea, I’d never thought of that. It would almost change my mind if only different software respected that distinction. There are many forms using toggles and many option pages with checkboxes without a save button.

Ah yeah, don’t you love f-droid’s impossible to read 5-line toasts that randomly appear when something in the background fails?
The colors too. It’s pretty clear where ON is when it’s between blue and grey but when it’s between red and pink who knows which is which. The best would be a label that doesn’t change and the words ON and OFF on either side of the toggle but that looks terrible so nobody does it.
- If it can be done without a touch screen DO NOT use a touch screen. And if you use physical buttons, they should have tactile feedback
- Toggles are just more ambiguous over-designed checkboxes
Why does swiping along the bottom to switch apps rearrange them so going back and forth is unpredictable?
This has been driving me crazy in MacOS where the three finger swipe up gesture from the trackpad rearranges everything. Add some other weird ux choices and you can’t switch between two windows without looking at the screen.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What X-mas themed things do people who hate X‐mas like?
22·7 days agoI usually hate Christmas songs except for Carol of the Bells. That’s just an amazing song regardless of the Christmassy lyrics. It’s sad that most places that play Christmas songs don’t include it.

In Greek it’s putana and it means prostitute like in Spanish. Hijo de puta also exists in Greek with the same meaning but it’s not used as frequently and doesn’t have a female version.
Tea/infusions in all its possible shapes and forms. Except bottled ice tea, that’s not tea.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•[discussion] Drivers ranting about traffic enforcementEnglish
0·20 days agoYeah I wasn’t talking about the teenagers but about the bars themselves. The point is, it doesn’t matter if it’s illegal, plenty of illegal things are treated the same way. It matters that it’s not taken seriously while it should.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•[discussion] Drivers ranting about traffic enforcementEnglish
2·21 days agoSimilar thoughts definitely exist for other things that are not regularly enforced. There is a well known Facebook group in my city that tracks the location of ticket inspectors in public transport so you can avoid them. And bar owners in neighborhoods warn each other whenever there are checks for underage drinking or smoking inside because these laws are also rarely followed.
But I agree that if someone said similar things about health inspections it wouldn’t sit well with people. And it’s weird that something as dangerous as speeding or running red lights is not considered as important but rather as a minor thing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favourite songs discovered this year?
6·22 days agoFavorite albums that came out this year
Malicia - Mägo de Oz - Favorite song: El último rezo. There is a website about this album somewhere with a story formed by the songs but each song stands fine by itself too.
Puertas - El Cuarteto de Nos - Favorite song: En el cuarto de Nico. Some interesting lyrics here.Favorite rediscovered song
The Last Stand - Sabaton - This feels pretty random cause I don’t even remember where I came across it, just started listening to it at some point this year. Perfect for waking you up when you’re feeling down.
Sadly true (and yeah, I didn’t know about those movies)
And that’s why older media is usually better. Only the good parts have survived and the 90% has been forgotten.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you pay for online services like search and email if they offered a better experience than Google?
1·29 days agoI haven’t done it myself but know people who do. If you use a known provider and only the domain is yours I wouldn’t expect it to be blocked as companies also use their own domain for their email.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you pay for online services like search and email if they offered a better experience than Google?
13·30 days agoEmail yes but only with my own domain so I can change providers if the price changes.
I wouldn’t pay for anything I’d prefer to keep anonymous and that includes search.

It also depends how much you like the activity. I’d rather do my job for 2 hours than cook for 1 hour.
