• No quick restart options for arcade-style games like shmups
• Games that end up being too easy once you unlock of figure out one mechanic or technique like dash-dodge or iframe rolling and now the entire game is just the same loop
• Unskippable or long intros or cutscenes (I sold Guilty Gear Strive because of that eagle thing…)
• The spam garbage ripoffs on the Nintendo eShop that shouldn’t be there
• Code in a box
• When DLC characters are visible on character select even if you didn’t buy them (looking at those 10 greyed-out characters on SF6 are so annoying)

Super Metroid will always be my favourite. I also enjoyed Axiom Verge and Bloodstained ROTN.

I generally like shorter Metroidvania like Iconoclasts and some of the Shantae series or even Yoku’s Island Express which has some backtracking.

The Metroidvania tag is a bit like Dubstep in music, a lot of those Dubstep tracks aren’t Dubstep but they can still be fun for some people.

I did! I see it on my students’ screens in December. There is some other software that does little things like that. Pale Moon does something for Halloween I believe. I hardly ever watch videos on my computer though.

I still can’t remember why I disliked VLC, I think the first time I used it the video would not work but it played with mplayer.

Still good to have VLC around though, glad to see them stickin’ around all these years.

I am an ESL teacher. Generative AI is making things complicated for us, but it cannot replace learning the language. Right now, things like ChatGPT are presented as some sort of solution, but it is so far off and sometimes too obvious.

Like you mentioned, you think and reason differently in different languages. Plus, some people just love learning languages.

Aside: I am of the opinion that OpenAI and ChatGPT will disappear within 2 to 3 years. Their investors will abandon them leaving them drowning in debt, Sam Altman will face the same fate as Elizabeth Holmes. At some point his grift of asking for more money, hardware, electricity, water, etc., will be revealed.
