jokes aside - i’m working in consulting and lots of those AI startups are straight up money laundering operations that don’t really need neither market research nor talent pool studies - pretty much everything is for show and next to zero real longterm planning. A rude awakening is long overdue for these hotshots.

One time I had a misfortune to ask what one of these startups is going to do when their product will fail to gain traction (it was yet another grammar check sentence finishing app like Grammarly) - how are they gonna pivot and their CEO laughed at me and said “we are going to work hard to make it a success” which is like super stupid thing to say when your project is in the superoversaturated market affected by cost of living crisis with customer engagement on a consistent decrease for the last 3 years and your product costs almost the same as the market leader but is also way worse.

The crash is going to be spectacular.

That’s literally one of my colleagues from back in the day. He was business development manager - all Gary V hustle shit and then some - like literally. Stayed late, kept doing rah rah speeches that everybody should commit their all for the cause, always agonized over every sentence in replies as if its a matter of life and death. When I was passed over for promotion I was told I’m not going hard unlike that guy. Well, that guy died of a heart attack two years later a little over 31yo - closed the deal and went to the gym to pump some iron while pumped on strong coffee - just dropped dead after doing a set. What’s scary is that dude was three years younger than me - just how wrecked your body should be for that happen?

he had a chance to switch material towards kind of humor George Carlin started doing later in his career - discussing serious subject matter in somewhat jovial manner with continuous punching up. They played dumb when Transnistria situation happened, they didn’t gave a shit when russia started a proxy war with Georgia by fueling the separatist movements, they couldn’t be bothered with Karabakh thing, lots of them openly supported military invasion of Ichkeria that tried to secede according to international law only to be laughed at, they played the “it’s very ambiguous” during the August 8 invasion even there was nothing ambiguous. russian opposition was politically irrelevant long before that and their fate as absolutely inadequate play-pretend clownshow was cemented when most of them decided to feign ignorance and sit on the fence over Crimea annexation and then their leaders started speculating over that with sandwich rhetoric which was deeply idiotic and counterproductive.

just to clarify - taking ground with immense personnel and hardware losses over what it is rendered into a literal moonscape with no infrastructure or housings intact. good luck holding onto that.
