Worked for a company that had a similar policy against free software, but simultaneously encouraged employees to use open-source software to save money. I don’t think upper management was talking to the IT department.

Lots of repeat customers, and some people get all pissy after Narcan because it killed their high.
I’ve explained NixOS to non-tech business owners by treating it like any other piece of equipment. You want to upgrade your widget stamping machine? Buy and install the new machine that meets all the specs and stamp some widgets with it. Only after you’re satisfied that it works do you remove the old one.
