I hate to take Ryanair’s side for anything, but the real question is: is there a force majeure clause somewhere in the rules for refunds that includes the traveler snuffing it before their flight? Because after all, why would it be natural that this should trigger a refund, as if it was obvious? If the guy was stil alive but was a no-show at the airport, he wouldn’t get his money back. This really isn’t that much different.

Of course, it would be classy of Ryanair to refund the lady: it’s not like it happens so often that they’re gonna break the bank if they make an exception. But classy and Ryanair don’t go together.

I said goodbye to the internet as I knew it decades ago when the first ad reared its ugly head on a website. It’s been pretty much a turd getting stinkier every year since then.

But I agree, the stench is about to become properly unbearable.

My theory is that cars, being uniquely private spaces moving on public roads, become bubbles of highly territorial spaces that people feel compelled to defend in what they perceived to be a “not-theirs”, adversarial environment. And when people feel the need to defend their own shit, they become aggressive.

That’s one of the minor reasons why I quit driving: even I, an utterly placid man who really, REALLY doesn’t care about his car all that much, feel slightly more agitated and more on the defensive when I hit the road. I don’t like the feeling of becoming more aggressive and stupid.

Concentration camps were for prolonged confinement

That is not what defines concentration camps.

Concentration camps, or internment camps, are prisons where people who are arbitrarily targeted by the regime are detained - more often than not in inhumane conditions - without due process. It doesn’t matter if it’s for 5 minutes or 5 years.

Most Nazi concentration camps were transit camps, designed to, well concentrate people in increasingly high numbers. And in a lot of “final” camps, people got in and were sent off to the gas chambers within hours of arriving there.

Jesus, I didn’t ever think that would be something I would say.

If you thought concentration camps only looked like Auschwitz, Gitmo, CECOT or Alligator Alcatraz, sometimes they also happen inside buildings. France for example had one in an appartment complex in Paris. The Trump regime isn’t really innovating here.
