Some of this is fearmongering, but it is a legitimate privacy nightmare to have the federal government tracking every purchase you make. I think the risks outweigh the benefit for most people.

final edit: look into tailscale possibly for your VPN, its easier to do the routing so that only traffic to your LAN goes through that and they will use their own bandwidth for open internet.

my understanding is that games like this have to track your location and store that location history for obvious reasons. I think Pokémon go was bought by Saudi Arabia or something like that, and that made me wary. what is your plan for protecting and anonimizing this data, and are you planning to sell it to third parties?
