  • I don’t know but, being a damn Yankee and straight man, I was sure the gay rodeo was something you invented specifically for this plot. I was about to comment you should have a side plot that explains what a gay rodeo is and what it’s purpose is.

Then I thought, “What if gay rodeo is a real thing and you could just look it up yourself?”

“But Self”, I replied “Wouldn’t a gay rodeo just be a rodeo?”

“Bro, you literally have access to all the worlds information at your fingertips- find out!”

So that’s what I did. To my delight I found out I was right and wrong. Gay rodeo is pretty much just a rodeo, but it’s also a safe space where gay folk that lived in a backwards ass culture could be themselves- and had been since the 1970’s!

You definitely should add a side plot that explains what gay rodeo is and it’s purpose, because it’s beautiful :)

    Good luck!

  • There is something to be said in writing a handwritten letter for someone special once in a while. But I’m so glad that I can just pick up a phone and call my brother who lives in another state and chat with him (no long distance charges). If it’s something better said in writing there’s email and texts.

There’s also the aspect of text’s that are more personal that no one really talks about. You can just check in on a friend to see how they are doing without really having any other reason to contact them. I know I appreciate it when that happens to me.

I guess you could write someone a letter asking how they are doing, but if the answer is ‘not good’, by the time you receive the reply days have passed and you probably missed the opportunity to be there for them when they needed it.

This isn’t even considering the environmental benefits of not having to A) produce paper, pens, envelopes, stamps and B) physically deliver the letters.

There’s a lot of things about modern tech that you could criticize, but I don’t think more/better options for communication is one of them honestly.

  • Can anyone recommend a good Lemmy client for Linux? Bonus points if it works well in portrait mode.

I am on Pop!_OS 22.04 and the only apps in the COSMIC Store are Interstellar and Lemonade.

Interstellar seems fine but if there is a way to tag users in it I can’t seem to figure it out, it also seems designed for Landscape mode and it’s a little cramped on my second monitor.

Lemonade hasn’t been updated since October of 2023, so I’m a little wary of trying that one out. I can’t even tell if they are still developing it or something called Ouch Browser, if its the same project with a new name, or just abandoned alltogether.

I know there are other Lemmy Apps but I am a little lost tbh.

  • To put this in perspective, Jeff Bezos just one of the islands residents makes $10 million dollars every hour and 20 minutes. That’s day and night, round the clock, whether he is ‘working’ or not. He makes more in 14 minutes than most people do in their entire lives.

This would be like an average person paying $1 to fix their towns sewage problem. It costs approx $420 on average to have your septic tank pumped, which ‘normal’ people with septic tanks have to pay every 3 to 5 years. They can’t pay off a politician to have their neighbors pay for it, and they probably wouldn’t if they could. Bozos could have just paid the $10 mil, and donated another 10 mil to upgrade they system and it would have been the equivalent of pocket change for him.

People act like leftists are just jealous of Billionaires, it has nothing to do with jealousy. The literally insane levels of greed and entitlement it takes to think this way is off the charts. They would rather pay off a politician and change the law than to just pay their bills like a normal person. This is toxic thinking of the highest degree.

Most US citizens probably couldn’t point to Brazil on a map, have no idea that they speak Portuguese, couldn’t name a single Brazilian or Latin artist, and couldn’t tell you the difference between Latino/Latina and Hispanic.

You put a Brazilian next to a Venezuelan and they’re more likely to be described as ‘a couple of Mexicans’ than a Hispanic or Latin American.
