  • But I get the appeal of the ebus it just sounds cheaper. One city I won’t name started to build trolley bus network again after they got rid of it in 70’s (because of metro construction and expansion of trams), but they just doing it bit idiotically by wanting to have like 30% of it on wires and rest run on batteries.

Why? Because the infrastructure is just more expensive upfront.

Will it work? Nobody knows, people that are building it lobby to get it up to at least 50/50 then it is maybe just feasible.

I think that roads and buses have place in the transportation but you just need more options not just that.

  • I am for electrification but I just can’t get behind electric buses.

My city made some study last year and the best way forward in terms of public transport is expansion of trolley bus network. With batteries and constant use it just doesn’t make much economic sense. If you can build the wiring it is much better in long run. You don’t have to have 100% coverage, 70+% is enough for partial battery powered trolley bus, then it starts to be economically feasible in the operating cost sense.

Also they will need to build some kind of metro system - probably as an extension of commuter trains.

  • I think that if you don’t do the same job at some point in time or have really deep insight in the industry/job, you newer know what he’s doing.

From my work experience I can say that most work tasks I had wasn’t that simple (if I don’t count the “human robot” type summer jobs).

Even some simple sounding job titles hide lot of different tasks most people don’t talk about or even don’t think about.

For example I was brew master in small brewery (3 people including myself) - you would think I was there to only make beer, my boss deals with paperwork, and my colleague is there for maintenance and cleaning. In reality I was more of Jack of all trades - maintanance, planning, cleaning, sanitation, kegging, helped with tasks you wouldn’t think about.

And I think business man covers lots of different tasks that are quite boring so I wouldn’t mind not knowing about them.

  • Had to look at wiki about the modernization of 810.

And I wasn’t entirely correct the true modernization was performed 2005-2012 basically rebuild to be the yellow RegiNova train.

Last “modernization” 2020-2024 was pretty much stopgap before they can get some new trains. Fitted new motor so AC can be fitted and new interior.

  • I don’t know the name of the trains that are meant to replace those 70’s trains. But there are options, truth is that it is just aging and is increasingly hard to maintain them in decent condition (most recent modernization was ~2015). At least here it will be replaced eventually for more modern ones, I know it is blast from past but it just doesn’t matter for regular commuter.

Yes too small, too slow and on electrified tracks irrelevant. They are meant for small regional lines, not for suburban transport. It is like running trams as EC trains.

  • I like them but fortunately didn’t see them in a while. I say fortunately because they get slowly replaced not like the insane plan in Hungary to “modernize” them.

Also they aren’t suited for the place where I live so few lines are still served with the old DB carriages other have the new RegioPanther trains.
