when i canceled things with my therapist and told them that the reason was that i didn’t trust that their notes about me would remain private and would in fact be used to hurt me she was shocked and told me that was ‘impossible’. I was quite dismayed to learn that there was no way for me to have them destroy those notes already taken the practice staff told me that they were required to keep them for insurance purposes and i can’t afford any lawsuits.

And here we are and I’m not surprised but i am dismayed and i’m glad i didn’t tell my therapist a lot of things.

you’re picking out all the possible extra things you might do if you start certain kinds of businesses. None of this is required to own a business you literally have to fill out a few forms and you’re legal in most if not all states.

that’s almost entirely just paperwork, and you clearly didn’t read my comment which carved out these kinds of expenses.

not at all, in most states the state and federal filing fees are only a few hundred bucks combined. You have to register with your secretary of state and the irs and you’re in business. More of course if you need licensing and overhead and insurance but not all businesses require these things.

I use them after a POC friend said they thought it was cool when white folks use them and i’ve never heard anyone complain about it before this thread. It never occurred to me before that but i have many kinds of privilege so i’ll make any simple accommodation like that I can.

they are talking about making fire without using lighter or matches or a fire starter, just wood on wood friction the way people had to make fire before any of those things existed. An oily rag won’t help you with the difficult part; making a small coal to light your tinder.

have tried 3-4 times but never even got a whiff of smoke! The region i camp in is generally described as ‘rainforest’ and while i have to assume it’s possible I am missing some trick to it.

I absolutely adore keeping the fire going. I was a white man for decades so i’m not dodging the allegations. I have never been camping where i was not the last person awake and always keeping the fire just right until all the wood was gone.

It’s all about the air flow. Too much and everything burns too quickly in a roaring furnace, too little and you have no light and not enough heat. By constantly adjusting the logs you can maintain the proper air flow to keep everything just right. Rotating a log to present fresh wood to an eager flame here. Squeezing two logs a little closer to reduce the oxygen and trim things up there. A proper fire adjusting stick (and a backup) is crucial.

Give me a stack of seasoned wood, a k-bar, a magnesium fire starter and a comfy camp chair and i’m in heaven from the time the sun sets until the wood runs out.
