Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda says Russian military planes violated Lithuania’s airspace on Thursday evening.

Russian military planes briefly violated Lithuania’s airspace Thursday evening, the Lithuanian president said, condemning what he called a blatant breach of the territorial integrity of his European Union and NATO-member country.

Lithuania’s foreign ministry planned to summon Russian Embassy representatives in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius to protest the violation, President Gitanas Nausėda said in a post on the social media platform X.

“This is a blatant breach of international law and territorial integrity of Lithuania,” Nausėda wrote on X. “Once again, it confirms the importance of strengthening European air defence readiness.”

        Lithuania borders both Kaliningrad which serves as an important Russian military outpost and Belarus which is very friendly with Russia and is happy to let Russian troops and aircraft through.

        Well, they do if you count Oblast, but there’s a looong way from there to Russia without flying over another country.

        Yet that’s exactly what happened. And yes, Kaliningrad Oblast is a part of Russia. Not sure why one would not count that: planes can fly over sea, or start and land right there in Kaliningrad!

        Or were you talking about some other oblast?
