bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Im an unworthy Fraud when it comes to Tech1·6 hours agoOk (forgive my paraphrasing but)
Listen modern computers are running on billions of lines of code. No one knows what the fuck it is doing.
Modern CPUs, GPUs and other specialized processors have billions of transistors. No one knows what the fuck it is doing ( read the errata if you don’t believe me)
So given that you are working on a steaming pile of crap running on a steaming pile of crap. Why the fuck do you think anyone knows what the fuck it is doing?
If you want to know what a computer is doing get a 6502 or 6809 and flash an eeprom. Otherwise accept things you don’t know about will show up while working on the fuck pile.
Scared.
Not because of my age but because of the cancer that my health insurance refused to cover.
It took years to pay off that debt

bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise1·1 day agoHonestly, a swarm of O’Neil cylinders would have more surface area than the planet Earth and need less mass than one of Mars’ moons. That would be vastly superior to even a duplicate Earth of nothing but nature preserves

bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Payment Processors Are Pressuring Major Gaming Vendors to Pull LGBTQ+ and NSFW TitlesEnglish63·1 day agoWell if we wanted to pressure payment processors. We need only stop using them for about a month. Just use only cash.
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise0·1 day agoBut the moon itself supports life just fine (we contaminated it back when we landed on the moon); we have grown plants on the moon successfully. Are the sci-fi writers explicitly ignoring what we have known for decades to justify a poorly thought out plan to do a search and replace movie?
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise1·1 day agoA planet with air they can’t breathe and with life forms that want them dead…
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise5·1 day agoGiven that they could accelerate masses to relativistic speeds. It never made sense to me why they bothered to do anything other than shatter the planet (a Chevy engine block could do that job at those speeds) and then collect the now more readily available unobtainium from the vacuum of space with no fighting required or any loses of any kind.

bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles11·2 days agoYou are correct; child care requires a much more complex subject than just put drugs up.
Locked medicine cabinets don’t stop kids that figure out lock picking. Two year old children figure out child proof packaging. That is why as a parent you actively care for your children and teach them the why and how of the world.
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles02·2 days agoWell some medicines are so cheap that the manufacturers sell them in 2000 to 50000 pill bottles and the pharmacy just counts out 30-60 pills and sells them to people for $1 or $2
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles01·2 days agoperhaps concrete examples from the world of materials science might help lead the conversation in a more productive direction.
aluminized paper is a better oxygen barrier than plastic and just as effective for keeping moisture out.
And I am not trying to solve a problem, I am exploring the idea space around a shower thought.
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles02·2 days agoWell I am familiar with the concept; I don’t know what the exact constraints that exist beyond the basic chemistry of the medicines themselves and what would help them remain safe and stable. With a little bit of knowledge about mechanical design criteria for human usage. Do you perhaps know of any constraints beyond those?
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles05·2 days agoCan you please give me more information about how they improve that specific situation/medicine group?
bacon_pdp@lemmy.worldOPto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Pharmacies shouldn’t give pill bottles14·2 days agoWhy would anyone put a pill bottle (or any other dangerous thing) within grabbing range of a small child?
Applied retroactively and recursively, it would strip citizenship from effectively all Americans
