  • I also struggle with people liberally handing out “11/10” for “great” and go up to 12 for “awesome”.

My scale for “great” is 8, “awesome” is 9 and 10 is reserved for really special things (greay by itself + some additional bonus).

I always feel weird, like I’m overly critical, when someone else says “Oh this is great, I love this, 11/10” and I feel the same but only hand out 8.7/10.

Context is the delicacy known variously as Fleischkäse, Leberkäse or local variations (the post for instance uses the phonetic spelling lewakas for their local pronunciation). It is often served as a slice in a white bread bun, which also has different names such as Wecken or Semmel (or, again, semme in the post’s locale).

    > me
    > trainee at Merkur [an Austrian grocery chain]
    > assigned to the meat counter
    > a lady comes to order from me
    > hear from far off that she’s a German

“Yes, Hi, good afternoon, I’d like a Wecken with that Fleischkäse here, is that possible?”

    > tf did she just say
    > around here, that’s still called Leberkäse-Semmel

“And please not too thick, it doesn’t taste good anymore if it’s that thick”

    > mfw
    > around here, that’s a war crime
    > prepare to cut

“Noooo, see, that’s already too thick for me. Half as thick, at most.”

    > bro do you want it translucent
    > hear her cuss quietly

“Why those Austrians always want their Fleischkäse slices so damn thick…”

    > daft cunt
    > cut her a 1cm [0.4 in] thin slice

“So much for this being the best store around…”

    > that’s it
    > throw the slice in her face with full power
    > boss has seen it
    > he’s dying laughing
    > still reprimands me

It’s damn hard being the best
