I think increasing the payroll tax is a mistake
It says that it is for transit. If that includes public transit, it makes sense to me. I lack overall context on the bill/terminology/state, though.
Reddit -> Beehaw until I decided I didn’t like older versions of Lemmy (though it seems most things I didn’t like are better now) -> kbin.social (died) -> kbin.run (died) -> fedia.

At around 20:45 JST last night, they finally removed all of the evacuation orders where we are (and I think in the rest of the main islands, at least). Definitely this morning, we’re all down to anything from an advisory to nothing at all (per the JMA website). Trains are still not running up here in parts of Tohoku, though. Some people voluntarily remain in evac areas this morning in my prefecture. A lot of people in the on the border of Iwate and Miyagi prefectures got wiped out in the 2011 tsunami, so I imagine there is an amount of fear/PTSD there.
So far, there were a couple of minor injuries in people over the course of evacuation (probably due to panic and running or something). 4 whales were beached in Chiba prefecture which is maybe related to the quake and/or tsunami. I haven’t heard of any real domestic damage or injury this morning, but we might hear about some boats being damaged.
We still have only seen 1.3m (70cm where I live) thankfully. Looks like Hawaii got 1.7m in one area. Thanks to all for the kind words and I hope everyone outside of Japan is also safe and this is the worst we see from this event.
So far, it seems 1.3m is the max we’ve seen here in Japan. Most of my area is under evacuation order still and trains are all canceled.
So far, the only waves that have hit have maxed at half a meter, but they’re still warning us that more and bigger may come. I live about 3km off the eastern coast of northern Japan and we’re just barely outside of evacuation area in my part of the village.
I’m guessing you’re from the US and probably haven’t left there (at least for any country that isn’t wealthy or pretending to be in tourist areas)?
Poekmon: It came out when I was in highschool doing band, theater, occasional sports, a summer job (fulltime), and a parttime job otherwise so I just never got into it. To me, it’s a glorified paper-rock-scissors simulator with extra steps and zero nostalgia.
VTubers: it’s just uncanny valley to me. I’m also super sensitive to audio-video sync issues and avatars seemed to always be slightly behind the couple of times I tried to watch it.
Shorts (and entire social media like TickTock, reels (I think it is called?), etc.): the forcing of vertical video is one reason since I’m almost always watching things in landscape (95% of the time on a TV, monitor, or tablet). I also just want to see more of the same topic, typically, and it’s over and now I have to pay a mental context-switching fee.
I’m glad people stream because I can (a) watch games that I find interesting but hate the mechanics/etc. of and can’t/won’t play and (b) I can learn different techniques and other things in games I do like (such as Link to the Past Randomizer).
I do also like streaming for language practice, mostly just on the input/listening side.
[…] JS […] dream.
Your dreams are my nightmares. Maybe that’s why I stick to backend these days.
I used to want to work for Google because I thought they were hiring the best and brightest and making cool stuff. That hasn’t been true in ages, though, as they do things that I definitely would define as ‘evil’ and love to kill off their products. Even were I to work there, I’m not sure my other goal, getting to work with and learn from some brilliant engineers, would even happen anymore. (I mean, if they’d hire me (and they almost did ages ago)…)
It’s 100% uncanny valley for me as well. There’s a creator a like who doesn’t like to appear on camera much (most of their main content is animated) and wanted to watch their livestreams. They used an avatar and it just weirded me out. It doesn’t help that I’m seemingly way more sensitive than usual when it comes to audio and visuals being even slightly out-of-sync.
If it has a divot like a spoon then spoonula. Else, (silicone) spatula.
Needlessly sexist and idiotic as a dude who takes medication daily.
