YouTube on Wednesday will begin testing a new age-verification system in the U.S. that relies on artificial intelligence to differentiate between adults and minors.
The political pressure has been building on websites to do a better job of verifying ages to shield children from inappropriate content since late June when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a Texas law aimed at preventing minors from watching pornography online.
Except they’re not verifying ages…
They’re verifying identities, because their data is worth a shit ton more when they can tie it to a real name.
If you block ads while signed in and they can detect that you’ve done so, sooner or later I expect them to start retaliating against your account. The threat of (for example) losing access to your GMail address because you blocked ads would probably be a strong deterrent.

And you can’t avoid ads.
With uBlock anyone can avoid ads.
not if you have to sign in
Work for me. Or is there some inobvious nuance?

On mobile, when I’m signed in, I get ads no matter if I use ublock origin or not. I don’t sign into youtube at all if I’m laptop.
