“LFG”
Dude, we’re already in a group…It’s ridiculous how lazy people are today - especially that with autocorrect, it’s often harder to type the shortened version of something than to let it complete the thing for you.
Voice transcription has gotten good enough, and my thumb has carpal tunnel bad enough, that this shouldn’t be a problem anymore.
The other day someone told me they were otp with another person. I’m like, one time password? Google is like, one time password? Finally AI google was like, they mean “on the phone.” Sigh I had to do research on this text.

My latest one was rq.
I thought it was a typo.
It stands for ‘real quick’.
Idk, I mean can’t you just pick it up from context?
Lmk if you genuinely can’t.
lick my kitten?
On the first date?
I encourage people to meet expectations. Petting is important. How will you ever get the second date if you don’t wear the collar?
196 is that way.
This comment made me RQ

“Let Me Know”, it’s not that uncommon.
I know. I was being facetious.
I hate nobody I want to meme
??
Rq is a rage quit
Not according to the gen z who I was chatting to. Also, rage quit would have made no sense in that specific context.
I read it as Request…which was close enough to work.

Assholes can’t even type, ammirite?

My gamer self wants to know why you’re crying or insinuating that I’m crying. Oh, quick question? Just fucking ask and stop priming me for your next move.

For those that don’t get it… it’s copypasta meme from that banana bread rant
My cousin used to post things like that on Facebook/MySpace all the time during his emo phase. They appeared to have been secret messages intended for his crush(es) to decipher, and it made me want to die a little every evening when a new one would manifest.
It would read something like “HILYMTLIAIWTBYH”, which (upon decoding) meant, “Hailey I love you more than life itself and I want to be your husband”. Whether or not Hailey ever wasted her time on such an obnoxious endeavor is unclear. I certainly hope not.
Oh yeah that’s frustrating.
At least the one I posted is easy to identify. (Dude I Got Some Fucking Banana Bread At Work Today…)
How dare you, take that back!!

Okay grandpa let’s get you to bed
I just hate “lmao” used as punctuation.
I have this problem when people use abreviations for game names. There are so many games that it’s impossible for me to understand. And good luck to find out which game it is if it’s a new one you never heard of…
It can sometimes work if there are more than one character involved TES:III, F:NV, EU4, CK2, VIC2, HOI4, and CoC are all good examples. Also yes I did use a bunch of paradox games but only the ones I have more than a thousand hours in.
Man I love CP, if only it didn’t take up so much space on my hard drive.
When one piece fans have hyped up the villains for Water Seven but saying u are excited to see CP9 is way too sus 💀
I know some of those words.
Really? I never would have thought Captain Planet would take up that much space on a hard drive. Are you storing fucking Captain Planet as a 4k video? It was a cartoon from the early 90s. I think 480p would be more than enough! Sure there were 114 episodes, but they weren’t that long. How much space can the complete Captain Planet really take up?
32.7 gb at 480 ;)
But it includes the srt files. Get rid of those and it’s probably closer to 32 even.
(I know this was a joke, but it is still pretty big 😉)
Acronyms are a pet peeve of mine. Basically useless and now you need tribal knowledge to understand what the hell someone is talking about.
That’s true, but it’s also true that within a small community sometimes acronyms are necessary. Like, imagine NASA:
“Jones exited the AL in his AES but the C4ISP flagged an error either in the LSPG or WFCA.”
vs.
“Jones exited the air lock in his Anthropometric Extra Vehicular Activity Suit but the Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Information Systems Protection system flagged an error in the Life Support Power Generation System or Water Flow Control Assembly”
Insiders can use the acronyms to be much more efficient. Outsiders probably wouldn’t even understand what they’re talking about even if they did spell things out fully.
The only problem is when acronyms leak and what’s a well known and clear acronym in one group becomes a confusing one to another group, or worse is confused for a different acronym from a different group.
If the intended reader is a regular person just use normal words, even if it’s not 100 % accurate.
Jones exited the air lock in his space suit but the control system flagged an error with life support or water flow
All three ways don’t mean much to me as an outsider, but the last one at least paints a somewhat understandable picture.
They say /c/fuck_ai butttt damn for ambiguous acronyms…
Exactly! They say AI but what do they mean? GPTs, LLMs, GANs, CNNs…do they hate RAG as well?
/s
Somehow, 10% of the acronyms reduce to “TLA”. Including the very nice self-explanatory “three letter acronym”.
TMA is a problem. (too many acronyms)
That’s My Ass!
The Mighty Ape!
Why are you being so wordy!
“Aaappom. BU and now you need TK to understand WTH someone is TA.”
AAPPOMBUANYNTKTUWTHSITA
God of War vs Gears of War are my least favorite but there are others like when it’s solo, ie D2.
No love for guild wars, I see
Guild of Wars? GoW is the initialism in question
And they’re usually such worthless abbreviations and acronyms that save next to no time. Unless you’ve already defined your acronym or someone mentioned it immediately before you, you’re just confusing a smattering of people.
Who’s up for some AC?
Armor Class?
Acceptance Criteria is a must. Just ask QA.
Assetto Corsa? Nah, I’m more of a Forza kind of guy.
Alan Cake is awesome
Thank, my house has pretty good insulation, I don’t even have a fan, not to say an AC
AC, GoW, EA, POE, CS, DS, so, so many.
Assassins Creed, God of War, No idea, Path of Exile or Pillars of Eternity, Dark Souls.
Damn I would’ve said Animal Crossing for the first one, but I’ve never played an Assassin’s Creed game so there’s that. Also CS makes me think of Counterstrike.
I only played about 20-30 minutes of Assassins Creed myself, but you hear the name all the time. I was actually going to put Counterstrike for CS but skipped it somehow.
I’d’ve thought EA is just an abbreviation for Electronic Arts.
Back in the day, a couple of people I knew abbreviated it as EOA to more closely match their original logo.
That was the first thing that popped into my head, but I thought @Shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works was just listing game names.
Yeah, mb. EA for Early Access / Electronic Arts.
I was talking with some friends about Dune stuff (after the recent game came out) and was mentioning stuff in the books. I had used the name before, but I type CoD once and they were confused why I was talking about Call of Duty, but it was Children of Dune.
Oh yeah, for me MW is MechWarrior. Modern Warfare is a BBS door game.
MW was kinda meh, I prefer underground 2, but most of the time I’ve spent in Porsche Unleashed
Most Wanted Underground 2 let’s gooooooo. Amazing soundtrack
